Big decision of Samrat government in Bihar, face of 6 cities will change from July; 400 gleaming electric buses will run

Bihar News: A big step has been taken towards strengthening the modern, safe and environment-friendly public transport system in Bihar. Under the PM e-Bus Seva Scheme of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India, a concession agreement was signed between Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC), Transport Department and Greencell Mobility Private Limited for the operation of 400 electric buses.

Transport Minister Damodar Rawat, Transport Secretary Raj Kumar, State Transport Commissioner Arif Ahsan, BSRTC Administrator Atul Kumar Verma and many senior officials were present in the program organized at Hotel Maurya in Patna.

6 cities will get the gift of electric buses

Under the scheme, Bihar will get a total of 400 state-of-the-art air-conditioned electric buses of 35 and 42 seaters. These buses will be operated in Patna, Gayaji, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga and Purnia. In the first phase, 200 buses will start operating from July 2026. Of these, 50 buses will be operated as special “Pink Buses” to ensure safe and respectful travel of women.

Passengers will get modern facilities

Special care has been taken for the comfort and safety of passengers in the new electric buses. All buses will have facilities like CCTV cameras, GPS based real time tracking system, panic button, passenger information system, fire safety kit, first aid kit and mobile charging point. Apart from this, the buses will also be equipped with modern safety equipment so that the travel of passengers can become more safe and convenient.

Charging network will be developed in all divisions

For the successful operation of electric buses, modern charging infrastructure is being developed in all the six divisions of Bihar State Road Transport Corporation. This work is being done with the help of the Energy Department. Eight fast chargers will be installed for every 50 buses. Through state-of-the-art fast charging technology, buses can be fully charged in about 1 to 1.5 hours.

Public transport will get a boost

Transport Minister Damodar Rawat said that PM e-Bus Seva Yojana will bring a new revolution in the urban transport sector of Bihar. This is not just a plan to increase the number of buses, but a comprehensive effort to provide safe, accessible, comfortable and environment-friendly transportation to the citizens. He said that operation of electric buses will reduce pollution, reduce fuel dependence and encourage people to use public transport instead of private vehicles.

Preparation to provide world class transportation facility

Transport Secretary Raj Kumar said that the state government is committed to developing a technology-based modern public transport system. With the operation of 400 electric buses, the traffic system in major cities of Bihar will improve and passengers will get world class transport facilities. He said that along with the operation of buses, development of necessary charging and other infrastructure is also being done at a rapid pace.

Important achievement towards green transportation system

BSRTC Administrator Atul Kumar Verma said that this agreement is an important achievement towards green and sustainable public transport system in Bihar. He said that the corporation is continuously working on modernization of bus terminals, e-ticketing system and expansion of passenger facilities in the state. This new fleet of electric buses will give new speed and new identity to public transport.

31 bus depots and stands will be modernized

31 bus depots and bus stands of the state are being developed by BSRTC on PPP model through Infrastructure Development Authority. Its objective is to provide modern and world class facilities to the passengers. The government believes that through electric buses and modern transport infrastructure, the public transport system in Bihar will get a new direction, due to which passengers will get the benefit of safe, convenient and environment-friendly travel.
