Voting for Rajya Sabha elections is to be held on March 16. The information about which candidates are in the fray from NDA will become clear during the election process and political experts are paying close attention to its results.
Who are the five candidates of NDA?
NDA has fielded experienced and strategic faces while maintaining coordination among its constituent parties. The five NDA candidates are as follows:
Nitish Kumar (JDU)
Bihar Chief Minister and widely recognized leader of Janata Dal United (JDU) Nitish Kumar will reach the Rajya Sabha this time as a member. Nitish Kumar has already been a member of Rajya Sabha, Legislative Assembly, Legislative Council and Lok Sabha. Now after reaching Rajya Sabha, he will be included in the list of those leaders who have obtained membership in all four houses. This will increase both his political and experience strength.
Ramnath Thakur (JDU)
JDU has expressed confidence in its senior leader and Jananayak Ramnath Thakur, son of Karpuri Thakur. Ramnath Thakur is currently a Rajya Sabha member and holds the post of Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. This will be his third Rajya Sabha term.
Nitin Naveen (BJP)
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Bihar state president and powerful leader Nitin Naveen has been fielded by the party as its Rajya Sabha candidate. Nitin Naveen has been MLA from Bankipur Assembly of Patna five times. Considering his experience and organizational abilities, he has been given responsibility at the national level. After going to Rajya Sabha, he will play an active role in central politics.
Shivesh Kumar (BJP)
BJP has made its strategy clear by sending the strong pillar of its organization Shivesh Kumar Ram to Rajya Sabha. Shivesh Kumar’s father Munnilal Ram has also been a senior BJP leader and minister in the central government. Now Shivesh Kumar will carry forward this political legacy and strengthen the role of the party in Rajya Sabha.
Upendra Kushwaha (RLMO)
Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLMO) chief Upendra Kushwaha is the fifth Rajya Sabha candidate under the NDA alliance. However, his victory is not completely certain. Kushwaha will need an additional three votes to win. Considering the possibility of cross voting for NDA, the contest on this seat will be a bit interesting and competitive.
This time, NDA has ensured unopposed victory on four seats to strengthen its position. The Grand Alliance has fielded its candidate on only one seat. This has made the contest for the fifth seat interesting.
