Political activity has intensified regarding the elections for 5 Rajya Sabha seats in Bihar. Till now 3 names have been announced by NDA, but Chirag Paswan’s recent statement has made this electoral equation even more complicated.
Patna: The announcement of NDA candidates for 5 Rajya Sabha seats in Bihar has become the center of discussion in political circles. Meanwhile, the statement of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan has raised doubts over the Rajya Sabha candidature of RLMO chief Upendra Kushwaha. NDA has already announced 2 BJP candidates out of 5 seats, National President Nitin Naveen and former MLA Shivesh Kumar Ram. But no final decision has been taken yet within the alliance regarding the fifth seat.
Chirag Paswan’s statement: Fifth name not finalized yet
Chirag Paswan clarified while talking to the media that,
‘The discussion on names within the alliance was going on for a long time. Now that the election process has started and the results are near, the list of final candidates is being released. The fifth name has not been finalized yet and there is no official seal on it from the NDA.
Chirag also said that he congratulates the declared BJP candidates Nitin Naveen and Shivesh Kumar Ram and will provide all possible help to their victory. His statement has created confusion in the political circles over the candidature of Upendra Kushwaha, because LJP (Ram Vilas) has 19 MLAs, while Kushwaha has only 4 MLAs.
Upendra Kushwaha’s Rajya Sabha prospects
There was already discussion about making RLMO chief Upendra Kushwaha the candidate for the fifth seat. But Chirag Paswan’s statement indicated that an overall consensus has not yet been reached within the NDA alliance. Experts believe that this statement of Chirag reflects the tussle and balance of power within the alliance. Since LJP (Ram Vilas) and JDU have more seats in NDA, it may be challenging to finalize the fifth seat without their consent.
Announcement and reaction of BJP candidates
BJP had already released the list of its two candidates:
- Nitin Naveen – National President, BJP
- Shivesh Kumar Ram – Former MLA
Congratulating both of them, Chirag Paswan said that he will support all the candidates of the NDA alliance. He also added that when the official list of NDA is released, the alliance candidates will register a big victory.
