Bihar Ration Card Alert: Names of 57 lakh people will be removed from ration cards in Bihar, list ready! Is your name somewhere?

Bihar Ration Card List New Rules: A very big and shocking news is coming out for crores of people taking advantage of the free ration scheme in Bihar. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and Nitish government have taken a very strict and big step regarding the free ration scheme. The government has officially made it clear that families whose monthly income is Rs 10 thousand or more, or who do not fit the eligibility standards set by the government, will no longer be given the benefit of government ration at all.

Under this strict decision, an intensive verification drive of ration cards is currently being conducted across the state. The government claims that more than 57 lakh doubtful or ineligible beneficiaries have been identified in Bihar, whose names are to be permanently removed from the existing ration card list. According to departmental data, till now the names of more than 30 lakh 63 thousand people have been removed from the list.

32 lakh cards made in two elections, now political turmoil created over removal of 57 lakh names

This sudden and big campaign of the government has started a new and heated debate in the political circles of Bihar. Opposition parties are continuously attacking the government regarding this figure. In fact, figures show that just before the 2020 assembly elections, 23.39 lakh new ration cards were hastily made in the state and then 8.5 lakh new ration cards were made in a hurry before the 2025 elections.

That is, during the last two major elections, about 32 lakh new beneficiaries were added to this list, whereas now, as soon as the elections are over, this administrative action of removing 57 lakh names has given a big political issue to the opposition. While the opposition is calling it an anti-poor step, the government clearly says that this is a fair campaign to bring complete transparency and remove fake beneficiaries from the system.

Getting a shock after giving thumb impression to dealer, thousands of families in confusion

After the sudden cancellation of ration cards, thousands of poor families of the state are currently in a lot of confusion and trouble. The most surprising thing is that many beneficiaries are getting information about their names being deleted when, like every month, they go to the Public Distribution System (PDS) shop to put their thumb on the biometric machine to collect ration.

Ramesh, a resident of Biharsharif, Nalanda, told that he had gone to the shop with his elderly grandmother to buy ration, but no record of both of them was found in the machine there. Similarly, Ashok Kumar Mahato of Begusarai, Vibha Devi and Damodar Mistry of Darbhanga have also made a serious complaint against the administration for suddenly stopping the ration without any prior written information or notice.

Why are names being cut? PDS shopkeepers told the inside story

On the other hand, Public Distribution System (PDS) shopkeepers say that there are strict guidelines of the government behind this. The government is continuously laying maximum emphasis on Aadhaar linking and updating e-KYC of ration cards. The names of consumers who had not got their KYC done within the stipulated time limit, or whose names of deceased family members were still registered in the ration card, are being automatically deleted through the software. Along with this, in many cases, the eligibility of people whose financial condition was found to be better than before during ground investigation has also been immediately terminated.

People with these 10 conditions will be directly removed from the list, will not get free ration.

If any of the following things are present in your family, then as per the new standards of the government, your family will not be considered eligible for the free ration scheme:

  • If any member of the family has a three or four wheeler (car, tractor etc.).
  • Any member of the family earns ₹10,000 or more per month.
  • Any member of the family is working in a government job.
  • A family member pays income tax or professional tax.
  • A member of the family runs a large non-agricultural business.
  • There is a permanent house and adequate facilities for living.
  • The family has more than five acres of agricultural land.
  • Commercial facilities like tractor, power tiller or heavy motor pump are available in the house.

Process completed in these 14 districts, most suspicious in Patna-Muzaffarpur

According to the latest information received from the Food and Consumer Protection Department, the first process of removing names of ineligible and fake beneficiaries has been completed in 14 districts of Bihar – Araria, Arwal, Aurangabad, Banka, Gopalganj, Jamui, Kishanganj, Lakhisarai, Madhubani, Nawada, Rohtas, Saharsa, Samastipur and Sheikhpura. On the other hand, in big districts like the capital Patna, Gaya, Saran, Siwan, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, East Champaran, Darbhanga and Bhagalpur, the most suspicious and ineligible beneficiaries have been identified, on whom the punishment is going to fall very soon.

If the name gets deleted by mistake, don’t worry, it will be activated again like this.

Giving clarification on the matter, the government says that the sole main objective of this entire campaign is to provide direct benefits of the government scheme only to the genuine and needy poor people, so that misuse of government resources can be completely stopped.

Along with this, while giving relief to the public, the administration has said that those people whose ration card has been closed and they consider themselves completely eligible, they should not panic at all. They can seek re-investigation of their case by giving a written application directly to their Block Supply Office. If they are indeed found eligible after physical verification and government verification, their ration card will be reactivated without any delay. At present, this investigation campaign remains the biggest hot topic of Bihar politics along with administrative action.
