The leap from Silicon Valley experience to UK Cabinet: Kanishk Narayan has tremendous experience in tech and policy. Before joining politics, he worked in top positions in Silicon Valley and Britain’s tech sector. He has advised many global corporate houses and international governments. In the 2024 general election, he surprised everyone by winning the Vale of Glamorgan seat on the Labor Party ticket, which was strongly held by the Conservative Party for the last 14 years. He became a junior minister in September 2025, but now in view of the increasing importance of AI, the Burnham government has given cabinet status to this department and handed over its complete command to Kanishk. Kanishka believes that AI is the mainstay of Britain’s economy, national security and global power. He also ran the ‘Help Your High Street’ campaign during the 2020 lockdown and has also been an advisor to think-tank Chatham House. Deep connection with Kolkata, Lisa Nandy continues to shine in the cabinet. The second big Indian name in the Burnham cabinet is Lisa Nandy, who has retained her post as Culture Secretary. Lisa Nandy has deep family ties to Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, India. Born in Manchester in 1979, Lisa’s father Deepak Nandi was a resident of Kolkata, while her mother Louise Byers is of British origin. Lisa, who studied politics at Newcastle University and has a Masters in Public Policy from the University of London, served as a policy advisor at top organizations working for homelessness and children before entering politics. Hat-trick of consecutive victories in Parliament since 2010 Lisa Nandy created history by winning the election from Wigan parliamentary seat in 2010, from where she became the first woman and first Asian MP. Lisa Nandy, who was made Culture Secretary for the first time in July 2024, impressed everyone with her administrative working style, due to which the new Prime Minister Andy Burnham has also kept his trust in her.
