Recently, veteran actor Biswajit’s daughter Pallavi Chatterjee talked about one of the most infamous chapters of Bollywood. In an interview with journalist Vicky Lalwani, Pallavi recounted a controversial incident that took place during the shooting of the 1969 film ‘Anjaana Safar’ (later released as ‘Do Shikari’).

Let us tell you that during the shooting of this film, her father forcefully kissed the then 15-year-old budding actress Rekha without her consent. In the film industry where family members often come forward to defend themselves, Pallavi clearly protested against this action of her father.

Pallavi Chatterjee shared the story

When Pallavi was asked about this kissing scene of her father, she clearly said, “It was absolutely wrong, it was not right, whether my father did it or anyone else. He should have either refused to do it or should have taken Rekha’s consent first. She was not ready for it, and obviously, it would have been very shocking for a 15 or 16 year old girl.” Pallavi further told that at that time there was a deep relationship between the two families. He said, “Rekha used to come to our house and we used to play together in our childhood. Our families were very close and we kept visiting each other’s houses. Perhaps because of the family ties, this incident was even more painful for her.”

The truth of what happened during the shooting of the film in 1969 was horrifying. At that time, the word ‘consent’ was not even part of the film industry’s vocabulary. When the film media reported on this at that time, they called it an obscene gimmick. Rekha was exploited on camera, yet no one dared to use this word.

Biswajit had leveled allegations against the director

According to Biswajit, film director Raja had insisted that he suddenly kiss Rekha, who was less than fifteen years old at that time, which shocked her. Biswajeet said that it was not his fault, he was just following the instructions of the director. Biswajeet admitted, “It was not for my pleasure, but was necessary for the film. Rekha felt betrayed and was very angry.”
