BJD’s strictness before Rajya Sabha elections: Notice to two MLAs, Patnaik missing from the meeting
Amidst the excitement of Rajya Sabha elections in Odisha, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has adopted a tough stance on discipline. The party has served show cause notices to two MLAs, who stayed away from important three-day meetings of Naveen Patnaik. Chakramani Kanhar from Baliguda (ST) and Naba Kishore Malik from Jaydev (SC) violated the three-line whip.
In the press release of Chief Whip Pramila Malik, it was clearly stated that his absence in the training, presentation and team meetings organized at Naveen Niwas from 13 to 15 March is serious. There are elections on four seats on March 16, where BJD has fielded Santrupta Mishra and Datteshwar Hota, but has the strength of only one seat.
Patnaik had asked to camp in Bhubaneswar to stop cross voting. In the notice, a final warning of attendance till 9 pm on March 15, 2026 has been given, in which there is a danger of suspension. Four MLAs—Kanhar, Malik, Manohar Randhari and Souvik Biswal—were missing.
The party accused BJP of selling horses. Congress also sent MLAs to Bengaluru resort. This step is a campaign to maintain unity. Patnaik’s emphasis is on training on the voting process.
As the elections approach, this action of BJD gives the message of strength of the party, which is necessary to secure a seat.
