Stormy day ahead in Parliament today amid protests by BJP, Congress over Ambedkar

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs on Thursday staged protest outside Parliament over alleged insult to Babasaheb Ambedkar by the Congress Party. Earlier the party MPs met at the office of Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju in the new Parliament building.

The Congress party has announced a protest march in the Parliament today in from the Ambedkar’s statue.  The party MPs will also carry out a march to the Makar Dwar of the Parliament building demanding resignation of Union Home Minister Amit shah over his alleged remarks against Ambedkar.

ONOE plan heads to joint committee

Meanwhile, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal is scheduled to propose that the Bills on the ‘One Nation, One Election’ plan be sent to a joint parliamentary committee today, according to the Lok Sabha’s list of business. Among the 21 Lok Sabha members who will review the two Bills on simultaneous elections are former Union ministers Anurag Thakur and PP Chaudhary from the BJP, and also Priyanka Gandhi Vadra of the Congress.

Ambedkar comment row

During a debate in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, Union Home Minister allegedly said that taking Ambedkar’s name repeatedly would not earn someone a place in heaven, implying that the Congress party’s frequent invocation of Ambedkar’s name is insincere. In response, the Congress party took strong exception to Shah’s comments, accusing him of disrespecting Ambedkar and demanding his resignation.
