New Delhi. The Modi government at the Center on Tuesday introduced a bill providing for simultaneous holding of Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the country in the winter session of Parliament in the lower house amid strong opposition from opposition parties. Along with this, it has been sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for comprehensive discussion. The party will now send notices to the BJP MPs who are absent from the Lok Sabha. In fact, today BJP had also issued a three-line whip to its Lok Sabha members to remain present in the House.

Let us tell you that BJP has actually taken this decision considering the votes cast during voting. During the presentation of the bill, only 269 votes were cast in support. In this regard, if BJP sources are to be believed, the party is now marking those MPs who were not present in the House. The party will send notices to all such MPs asking why they were not present in Parliament.
Let us tell you that, in view of the introduction of the bill regarding simultaneous holding of Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the Lok Sabha, Congress had issued a whip to its MPs asking them to be present in the House today i.e. on Tuesday. In this regard, a three-line whip was issued to the Congress Lok Sabha members, in which their presence in the House was made mandatory for important proceedings on Tuesday.
Total votes were 467, 269 were in favor
It is noteworthy that a total of 467 votes were cast in the Lok Sabha today. Of these, 269 votes were cast in support of the bill and 198 were cast against it. For the first time, voting was conducted on the introduction of the bill in the House through e-voting. However, many members have also opposed this arrangement.

Let us inform that, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal has introduced the 'Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill, 2024' and the related 'Union Territory Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024' in the Lower House, which provides for holding simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the country. Which was strongly opposed by the opposition parties.
Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal also introduced the 'Union Territory Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024' after the consent of the House by voice vote. After the introduction of these two bills, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla adjourned the proceedings of the House till 3 pm at around 1.55 pm.
