Is England’s record at Pallekele Stadium scaring Sri Lanka? You will be shocked to see the figures

T-20 World Cup Sri Lanka is going to face England in the second match of the Super-8 stage of 2026 and before this match, Sri Lankan fans seem a little worried. Actually, the English team will play two of its three Super 8 matches at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy and England’s record in Pallekele has been quite excellent, seeing which it can be said that this match is not going to be easy at all for Sri Lanka.

Pallekele International Cricket Stadium has been very good for England. They have played six T20Is here, out of which they have won four and lost only two. Just before the T20 World Cup 2026, England toured Sri Lanka for three ODIs and three T20I matches. The entire T20I series was played on this ground and England defeated the host team 3–0.

England’s first T20I match in Kandy was during the 2012 T20 World Cup. In that edition, they faced West Indies in Kandy on 27 September. Johnson Charles’ inning of 84 runs in 56 balls helped West Indies score 179/5. In this match, Chris Gayle also scored 58 runs in 35 balls. In reply, Alex Hales scored a slow half century on a difficult pitch. Jonny Bairstow also played a very slow inning of 18 runs in 29 balls, due to which England had to face defeat by 15 runs.

Not only this, when England last played on this ground, they defeated Sri Lanka. England scored only 128/9 in the first innings in that match, in which Sam Curran top-scored with 58 runs in 48 balls. In reply, the entire Sri Lankan team was out for just 116 runs and England won the match by 12 runs. In such a situation, England may like this ground more than Sri Lanka.
