MS Dhoni’s record broken, Jamie Overton achieved this feat against Rajasthan Royals

In the third match played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Chennai Super Kings team had to face defeat against Rajasthan Royals. However, despite this defeat, Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Jamie Overton stole the show with his performance. Before getting out as the last wicket, he played an inning of 43 runs and during this he also broke a record of MS Dhoni.

In this match, the entire CSK team was all out for just 127 runs and had it not been for Overton’s innings, CSK’s innings might not have even crossed the 100 mark. None of the top four batsmen could reach double figures and only one player could score more than 20 runs. Overton, who came to bat at number 8, took charge of the innings and broke Dhoni’s record during his innings of 43 runs.

Overton’s inning of 43 runs is now the highest score by any CSK batsman at the number 8 position. The previous record was in the name of Dhoni, who scored 37 not out against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024. Sam Curran comes third in this list, who scored 34 runs against Delhi Capitals in the 2021 season.

Meanwhile, despite losing badly to RR in their first match of the season, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad is not feeling disappointed at all. Gaikwad said after the match, “To be honest, I am not too disappointed. I thought the conditions were really difficult in the beginning, especially when we faced Jofra and Berger. They bowled very good lengths and even then it was a bit difficult for a medium-pacer. You could see that the spinners were also getting some help. Yes, we could have done better with the bat, we could have taken the game further, some good. Could have shown the batting, maybe taken the score to 150-160. But these days, you never know which score is good, so you just have to keep playing.”
