Steve Smith can create history in Perth Test against India, chance to break the record of Steve Waugh and Mark Waugh together
India vs Australia 1st Test: The first match of the five-match Border Gavaskar Trophy will be played between India and Australia at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Friday (22 November). If Smith scores 89 runs in this match, he will surpass Mark Waugh and reach sixth position in the list of players who have scored the most runs in international cricket for Australia. Waugh has scored 16529 runs in 445 innings of 372 matches in international cricket for Australia. Whereas Smith has scored 16441 runs in 399 innings of 341 matches including all three formats.
Apart from this, if he scores a century, he will surpass former captain Steve Waugh in the list of players who have scored the most centuries in Test cricket for Australia. Smith and Waugh are currently jointly second in this list with 32 centuries each. Ricky Ponting is on top with 41 centuries.
Smith is currently at seventh place among the players who have scored the most runs in the India-Australia Test series, he has scored 2049 runs in 37 innings of 19 Tests. After scoring 102 runs, he will come fourth in this list, leaving behind Rahul Dravid (2143 runs), Cheteshwar Pujara (2074 runs) and Michael Clarke (2049 runs).
