Stylish left-handed opener Devdutt Padikkal has become the first batsman in the history of Vijay Hazare Trophy to score more than 700 runs in two different seasons. Padikkal had earlier scored 737 runs in the 2021/22 season and now he has scored 721 runs in just eight innings in the current 2025/26 season. His brilliant performance has made him the most successful batsman of the tournament.

Devdutt Padikkal is now eyeing to break Narayan Jagadeesan’s record of scoring 830 runs in the 2022/23 season, which is the highest individual score in the history of the tournament.

Padikkal is out of the national team

It is noteworthy that Devdutt Padikkal is currently out of the Indian team. He has played two Tests for India so far, in which he has scored 90 runs. He made his Test debut in 2024 against England and played the next Test against Australia. He also made his T20 International debut in 2021 against Sri Lanka, scoring 38 runs in two matches. Despite being a part of the ODI team, he has not been given a chance to debut.
