Bloody game in Varanasi’s UP College: Student shot in front of the principal, screams and huge ruckus in the campus

Varanasi (Bureau): The prestigious educational center ‘Uday Pratap College’ (UP College) of religious city Kashi was shaken by the sound of bullets on Friday morning. In the corridor of the Faculty of Social Sciences, a student fired indiscriminately at his own classmate, killing him. The audacity was such that the murderer committed the crime in the presence of the college principal and escaped by jumping over the wall in a filmy style. After this sensational murder, angry students have created ruckus and vandalized everything from the college campus to the hospital.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 11 am when classes were going on in the college. As soon as Surya Pratap Singh (resident of Dubatha, Ghazipur), a student of BA fourth semester, reached the corridor of the faculty, the attacker sitting in ambush took out a pistol. The attacker mercilessly fired four rounds targeting Surya Pratap’s head and chest. As soon as the bullets hit, Surya Pratap fell on the ground drenched in blood. After the incident, the attacker ran towards the first floor and escaped by jumping over the back wall. While running away, he threw his pistol in a nearby garbage heap, which was recovered by the police.

Students’ anger: Campus became a battlefield, Police Commissioner took charge

The anger of the students reached sky high after seeing their comrade bleeding. Injured Surya Pratap was immediately taken to a private hospital in Maldahiya and then to BHU Trauma Center, but doctors declared him brought dead. As soon as the news of the death spread, hundreds of students closed the main gate of the college and started vandalism while raising slogans against the police administration. Seeing the situation going out of control, Varanasi Police Commissioner himself reached the spot with heavy force. At present, PAC and forces of several police stations are deployed outside the college campus and hospital.

In the initial investigation, it seems to be a matter of old rivalry or a fight for supremacy between student groups. Police identified the attacking student Manjeet Chauhan Who is said to be a resident of Chandmari area near the college. The Police Commissioner has interrogated the college principal at length and CCTV footage is being scrutinized. Many police teams are raiding to arrest the accused.
