Blue Eye Samurai Season 2: Release updates, cast details and story – All you need to know
One of the most anticipated animated series coming to global OTT platforms around the world is Blue Eye Samurai, a revengeful and identity-driven story from the perspective of a fierce heroine, Mizu, set in 17th-century Edo-period Japan. Fans are looking forward to Season 2, featuring more intense sword fight scenes, visceral action, emotional arcs, and Mizu’s ongoing journey to new lands, especially after the success of Season 1 in 2023. On December 8, 2023, Netflix renewed Blue Eye Samurai for Season 2, while the development began in early 2025.
Blue Eye Samurai Season 2: Release Updates
The show was renewed for Season Two shortly after it premiered in December, with production starting (or having been confirmed publicly) in late August 2026. Subsequently, sneak peeks from Netflix have shown that Mizu’s journey will continue.
Initially, the producers had hoped to have the show out for the spring of 2026, and Netflix had teased that timeframe in some early reports. However, recently confirmed information (from sources such as What’s On Netflix in early 2027) indicates that Season Two is slated for 2027, with no definite date. A delay in this shows the time-intensive nature of animated content intended for adults. Season one took around three years before any materials became available for the audience.
There will be six episodes in season two, which is fewer than season one, which is scheduled for around forty-four minutes each.
In several sneak peek videos, Netflix has shown some intense scenes, and there should be a significant amount of “additional blood to be shed.”

Blue Eye Samurai Season 2: Story
Season Two continues right where Season One left off, with Abijah Fowler now imprisoned, Mizu travels to London – having left Japan behind – in pursuit of the last two “white men” (Skeffington and Routely) who may be her father, one of four foreigners responsible for Mizu being an outcast during Japan’s Edo Period’s isolationist (Sakoku) period.
This season will continue Mizu’s relentless pursuit of vengeance, featuring dynamic sword battles and containing themes relating to the concept of one’s identity, shame, and revenge. Additionally, both creators have teased new challenges that Mizu must face in a foreign land and promise multiple action scenes with emotional depth.
This season continues the series’s mature themes, as well as stunning animation (created by Blue Spirit Studio), and focuses on Mizu’s internal struggle to disguise herself as purely a “creature of shame” due to being a female of lesser “creature” status and being born of a mixed racial heritage.
Creators Amber Noizumi and Michael Green have had long-term plans for multiple seasons, and potential for spin-offs in future years.
If you did not see Season One on Netflix, now’s a good time to get caught up before starting Season Two. Messy awards that season with animation, storytelling, and acting/performing; viewers have been waiting for Season Two, and understandably so, the amount of time needed to carefully craft the show, as it was completed beforehand. Keep watching Tudum or Netflix’s official social media channels for any updates on new trailers or release dates!
