Chelsea chaos: Teammates reportedly ‘unhappy’ with star player’s leadership approach

Enzo Fernandez’s Chelsea teammates are reportedly displeased with the Argentina international’s outspoken leadership.

The West Londoners are currently enduring one of their most difficult periods of the 2025-26 campaign following a disastrous exit from the Champions League.

Chelsea were comprehensively beaten 8-2 on aggregate by Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16, suffering a humiliating 3-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge in the second leg after a 5-2 collapse in the reverse fixture in Paris.

This European exit has coincided with a dramatic slump in domestic form, which has seen Liam Rosenior’s side slip down to sixth in the Premier League table.

With the club now winless in their last four competitive fixtures, internal tensions appear to be surfacing within the first-team squad at Cobham.

According to an exclusive report from The Telegraph several members of the Chelsea squad have begun to question the team’s vice-captain.

Fernandez has been a vocal presence on the pitch during recent losses to Newcastle United and Everton, but his approach has allegedly caused friction behind the scenes.

Some teammates are understood to be unhappy with the 25-year-old’s public displays of frustration and his conduct in the dressing room following heavy defeats.

These concerns come at a sensitive time for the West Londoners as they attempt to arrest a slide that threatens their hopes of a top-five finish.

Following the aggregate defeat to PSG, the midfielder gave a cautious interview to ESPN Argentina in which he admitted to being unsure of his plans beyond the current season.

While head coach Rosenior has publicly insisted that the World Cup winner remains committed to the Blues, the latest reports suggest a growing disconnect between the player and his peers.

Fernandez’s recent comments have appeared to leave his options open ahead of a summer move, recently revealing his fondness for ex-Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos and in an interview with Luzu TVvia Fabrizio Romano.

In the same interview, he also praised the impressive Luka Modric, the former Los Blancos midfielder who left Madrid in the summer of 2025 after 13 seasons, and compared Madrid to Buenos Aires.
