Maharashtra Civic Body Elections 2026: A High-Stakes Political Showdown
The Maharashtra civic body elections have been scheduled for January 15, 2026, with results to be announced the following day. The political contest is enormous: 29 civic bodies, including the highly competitive Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), 2,869 seats across 893 wards, and nearly 16,000 candidates vying for power.
The real attraction of this election lies in its political backdrop. The BMC polls will serve as a litmus test for Maharashtra’s new political landscape, reshaped by dramatic splits in the Shiv Sena and NCP. Adding to the intrigue, erstwhile rivals Raj Thackeray’s MNS and Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) are joining forces for the first time, making this municipal election less about potholes and more about power.
