BMC elections 2026: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, which are considered very important for the politics of Mumbai in Maharashtra, will be held tomorrow. After a long gap of almost three years, Mumbai is going to get a re-elected corporator council. A total of 1,700 candidates will try their luck in the elections to be held on Wednesday, while the counting of votes will be done on January 16.
Triangular contest to capture BMC
This time the contest for control of BMC has become triangular. On one hand, two factions of the Thackeray family – Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray are in the fray with the support of Sharad Pawar’s NCP. On the other hand, BJP-Shiv Sena alliance is in the fight for power. At the same time, Congress and Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) have also made the contest interesting by entering into the electoral battle by forming separate fronts.
What will be the voting time?
Voting will take place in all 227 wards of Mumbai from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. With the aim of increasing the voting percentage, the administration has declared a public holiday in the municipal corporation areas. Also, employers have been instructed to give their employees two to three hours of relaxation for voting. Schools will also remain closed in all cities.
Keep these things in mind before voting
Voters have been advised to check their names in the voter list before voting. For this, EPIC number or personal information can be entered through the ‘Search in Electoral Roll’ option by visiting the National Voters Service Portal (nvsp.in). After name confirmation, voters can visit the electoral search portal (electoralsearch.eci.gov.in) to check their polling station and its complete address.
Valid photo ID required on voting day
Apart from this, voters can also verify their information through the Voter Helpline app of the Election Commission. Valid photo identity card is mandatory to cast vote on polling day. In this, Aadhar Card, Passport, PAN Card or any other government photo identity card will be valid.
