BNP expresses gratitude as PM Modi promises ‘all possible support’- The Week
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) expressed its gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he promised India’s support to former prime minister Khaleda Zia, who is battling for life at a Dhaka hospital due to a chest infection.
“BNP expresses its sincere gratitude to the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, for his thoughtful message and kind wishes for the speedy recovery of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia,” the party wrote on X.
“BNP deeply appreciates this gesture of goodwill and the expression of readiness to extend support,” it said.
Earlier, in a social media post, Modi had expressed concern over the health condition of Zia and wished for her speedy recovery.
“Deeply concerned to learn about the health of Begum Khaleda Zia, who has contributed to Bangladesh’s public life for many years. Our sincere prayers and best wishes for her speedy recovery,” Modi wrote on X.
“India stands ready to extend all possible support, in whatever way we can,” he added.
According to media reports, Zia is “extremely unwell” and has been placed on ventilation, with both local and international medical specialists overseeing her treatment.
The three-time prime minister was admitted to the Evercare Hospital on November 23 when she developed a chest infection that affected both her heart and lungs. Four days later, she was shifted to the coronary care unit after several of her health complications worsened.
The 80-year-old leader has also been suffering from multiple other health complications, including liver and kidney issues, diabetes, arthritis, and eye-related illnesses.
“She is extremely unwell. The entire nation is praying for her recovery… She is seriously ill, and our doctors are making every possible effort. Local and foreign specialists are involved in her treatment. They are trying their best,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Monday.
