BNP is going to taste power again, won on 212 seats!…Know what is the condition of student leaders in Bangladesh?

New Delhi : A wave of historic change is being seen in the politics of Bangladesh. In the first elections held after Sheikh Hasina’s ouster, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), along with its allies, has won an overwhelming majority. After a long wait of almost two decades, BNP is ready to take command of the country again. However, the most talked about in these results is the failure of those student leaders who played an important role in overthrowing the Hasina government.

BNP’s historic victory

Let us tell you that according to the initial trends and reliable reports of the elections, BNP and its alliance have made a historic lead by capturing 212 seats. The huge sympathy and wave of political change that arose after the sudden demise of Khaleda Zia has easily taken the party to the threshold of power. Although the final official figures are yet to be announced, BNP has announced its massive victory. On the other hand, Jamaat-e-Islami has raised questions on the electoral process.

crushing defeat of student leaders

In fact, the student leaders who were the heroes of the August 2024 revolt completely failed to win the electoral confidence of the public this time. The performance of the National Citizen Party (NCP) of famous young faces like Naheed Islam was very disappointing. NCP had fielded candidates on 30 seats but could win only 5 seats. The enthusiasm of these youth, who brought down the government on the streets, faded in the election field. His huge popularity could not reach the ballot boxes, which is a very poor performance compared to other parties.

reasons behind failure

Political experts believe that the biggest failure of the student leaders was their lack of organizational strength. Instead of remaining as a united organization, they scattered into different factions due to which their power proved to be very weak in front of the huge network of BNP. As the elections approached, the youth of the country preferred stability and the experience of the old regime over new experiments. The youth joined BNP due to which NCP’s own core support base completely slipped away.

Attitude of Awami League voters

According to reports, traditional voters of Awami League also showed their inclination towards BNP instead of student leaders this time. These voters considered these student leaders mainly responsible for the sudden fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government, hence they did not show confidence in the new faces. Voters felt that after this difficult period of unrest, only an experienced party like BNP could restore political balance and peace in the country. Distrust towards student leaders became the reason for his defeat.

Strategic mistake of alliance with Jamaat

One of the main reasons for NCP’s defeat was its electoral alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami. After Hadi’s death, the NCP decided to fight along with the Jamaat, which angered progressive voters. Jamaat’s pro-Pakistan image and its controversial history did not appeal to the youth at all. There was a split within the NCP in protest against this alliance and a large faction separated. This strategic mistake completely destroyed the remaining political possibilities of the student leaders.
