Body of Indian student missing for 6 days found in California, bag was found at neighbor’s door
The body of 22-year-old Indian student Saket Srinivasiah was recovered today in California, US, after a six-day search. Saket was missing for the last six days, after which his family appealed to the Indian government for help. The Indian Consulate in San Francisco today confirmed the recovery of the body and assured all possible help to the family. Apart from this, preparations have been started to send Saket’s mortal remains to India.
Saket’s last seen place
Saketh Srinivasaiah was last seen on February 9, about 1 kilometer away from the campus of the University of California, Berkeley. Since then he had gone missing. The police and the local community together conducted a large-scale search operation. Later, Saket’s bag was recovered near a park, which contained his passport and laptop.
Saket was a resident of Karnataka
Saket, originally from Karnataka, was pursuing a master’s degree in chemical and biomolecular engineering at Berkeley. He was an alumnus of IIT Madras and received his early education from Sri Vani Education Centre, Bengaluru.
Local police and community conducted search operation
After Saket went missing, the police and the local community together started a search operation. On 14 February, police recovered Saket’s body from Lake Anza, and this was confirmed on 15 February. In the last few years, cases of missing Indian students have increased rapidly.
Indian Embassy statement
Following Saket’s death, the Indian Embassy issued a statement. The embassy said it stands ready to provide full assistance to the family. The Indian Embassy also assured that they are talking to the local police and administration and will make arrangements to send the dead body to India as soon as possible. Embassy staff are in constant touch with the family.
