Bokaro: Skeletal of missing student found in forest after 8 months
Bureau Prayagraj. After the murder of an 18-year-old girl who was missing for eight months in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district was revealed, the SP has suspended all the 28 policemen of the concerned Pindrajora police station with immediate effect. Those suspended include 10 sub-inspectors, 5 ASIs, 2 constables and 11 constables. The police of this police station are facing serious allegations of diverting the investigation in the case of kidnapping and murder of the student and benefiting the accused. The mother of the student, resident of Pindrajora police station area, had filed a complaint of kidnapping of her daughter in August 2025. Even after months, when the police did not take any action in this matter, the woman filed a Habeas Corpus petition in the Jharkhand High Court.
During the hearing of the petition, the High Court last week summoned everyone from the SP to the DGP of the state, considering the matter very serious. The court strongly reprimanded the SP for negligence in the entire matter. After this, on the instructions of Bokaro SP Harvinder Singh, a special investigation team was formed under the leadership of City DSP. When the SIT started the investigation, the entire matter was sensationally revealed in just two days.
On the basis of technical evidence, call details and other facts, the police came to know that the student was in contact with a youth named Dinesh Kumar Mahato. When the police detained Dinesh and interrogated him strictly, he told that the girl was pressurizing him for marriage. Troubled by this, on July 21, 2025, he took her to a deserted place under the pretext of killing her with a knife and hid the body in the bushes.
On Saturday, at the behest of the accused, the police recovered the skeletal remains of the deceased from the forest. Apart from this, the knife used in the murder, clothes worn at the time of the incident, four mobile phones and other evidence were recovered. The police have decided to conduct DNA test of the skeleton. The investigation by the SIT constituted by the SP revealed the shocking fact that the local police not only neglected the investigation but also tried to save the accused. According to sources, during the investigation, there were indications of exchange of money by some policemen in exchange for providing protection to the accused, after which 28 policemen have been suspended simultaneously.
Earlier, hearing a case involving a minor girl missing for eight months, the Jharkhand High Court ordered the removal of the officer in-charge of a police station and expressed concern over alleged police action against the missing girl’s family members, despite earlier ordering a stay on such actions.
This case pertains to a girl missing from Bokaro since July 21, 2025. The petitioner’s lawyer said the girl’s mother, Vincent Rohit Marki, had approached the police and said that her daughter had left home to fill the online form but had not returned. The family lawyer said the daughter had gone missing on July 21 and the mother had contacted the police the same day, but the FIR was registered on August 4.
“The same night we went to the police station. However, the police initially refused to register an FIR. They said that if we took someone’s name and my daughter was not found with him, we could be jailed and would not even get bail,” the mother said. The family was also “intimidated and discouraged” from filing a complaint. The FIR was lodged on August 4 alleging kidnapping by a local youth, whom the family suspected due to his alleged past relationship with the girl.
