Bomb on Hindu temples in Bangladesh, two Hindus stabbed to death; Atrocities on Hindus continue even after new government comes
New Delhi: The series of attacks on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh is not stopping. Even after the arrival of the new interim government, the situation does not seem to be improving. In the last few days, two Hindus have been murdered in separate incidents.
Also, a crude bomb attack took place on a temple, in which three people including a priest were injured. These incidents are raising questions on the security of minorities.
Two Hindus murdered in Bogura and Cox’s Bazar
On March 6, Chayan Rajbhar (40), a Hindu teacher, was stabbed to death in Phulbari Bazaar in Bogura district. This dispute took place regarding land.
The next day, on March 7, a Hindu shopkeeper named Ganesh Pal (29) was stabbed to death near the nearby BGB Camp in Cox’s Bazar. Hindu rights groups of Bangladesh have given information about these murders. These incidents show that attacks on minorities are continuing.
Bomb attack on Kali temple in Cumilla
On March 8, a crude bomb was thrown during the weekly Shani Puja at the Kaligach Tala Kali temple in Cumilla city. Three people including priest Keshab Chakraborty were injured in the attack. The injured were admitted to the hospital.
CCTV footage showed a masked person entering the temple with a bag and running away leaving the bag behind. After the blast, the attackers burst two more bombs in front of a nearby Buddhist temple and a private office, causing panic in the area.
Police and committee response
Kotwali Model Police Station officer Tauhidul Anwar confirmed the incident. Superintendent of Police Mohammad Anisuzzaman went to the spot and investigated and the anti-bomb squad was called. Temple committee president Sajol Kumar Chanda said that the blast occurred during the puja. Metropolitan Puja Utsav Front convenor Shyamal Krishna said that those who disturbed the peace should be arrested soon.
These incidents are part of the ongoing violence since the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government in August 2024. According to the Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council, thousands of attacks have occurred since then. Despite the new government, the attacks are not stopping, due to which fear has increased in the Hindu community.
