Team India register unwanted record in Australia post poor batting show in Perth Test
New Delhi: Team India registered an unwanted record post a shambolic show with the bat on the first day of the first Test match against Australia at Perth. In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener at the Optus stadium on Friday, big names in the Indian batting line up like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant failed to get big scores on a bouncy Perth wicket.
While Pant was useful for the Indian innings with score of 37, Kohli failed to make a mark as he could just muster 5 runs. Rahul, meanwhile, scored 26 runs while debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy, who received the Test cap from Kohli in the morning, put up a good show with 41 runs as the visitors were bundled out for just 150 in the 50th over.
India register unwanted feat
Team India registered an unwanted feat of the lowest first innings score in Australia, equalling their 150 scored against the Aussies in Sydney back in the year 2000. Sachin Tendulkar happened to top-score for the side with 45 runs and India went down in the contest by an innings and 141 runs. Meanwhile, after bundling out India for paltry first innings score of 150, the Aussies themselves slumped losing 7 wickets for a score of just 67 runs at stumps on the first day.
For Australia, Josh Hazlewood emerged as the top bowler with 4 wickets while Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Marsh picked up two wickets apiece to rattle the Indian side. Stand-in skipper and pace spreadhead Jasprit Bumrah shined for the team with 4 wickets while Mohammed Siraj picked up 2 wickets. Another debutant Harshit Rana also shined in his first game claiming a wicket for India.
India, on Day 2, would be hoping to remove the remaining three wickets of Australia as quickly as possible and cash in on the opportunity with whatever small lead they manage to get.
