BPL: Cricket legend dies amid chaos in Bangladesh, what caused his death?

There is an atmosphere of anarchy in Bangladesh at present. It is in this environment that surprising news is coming one after the other from the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Just before the start of the current season of BPL, the owners of a franchise named Chattogram Royals withdrew from the tournament citing lack of sponsors, after which the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had to take control of the franchise.

 

After this, Noakhali Express franchise coach Khalid Mahmood had created a ruckus due to lack of facilities in training. When Noakhali Express players went to Sylhet International Cricket Stadium for training, there were not even enough practice balls there. This enraged Khalid Mehmood and he angrily left the stadium and sat in an auto rickshaw. The franchise’s assistant coach Talha Zubair was also with him. They created a lot of ruckus in the middle of the road. Now news is coming of the sudden death of the assistant coach of a BPL franchise.

Coach died before the match

Dhaka Capitals team was going to play its first match of this BPL season on Saturday (27 December). They faced the challenge of Rajshahi Warriors at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Before the match, Dhaka Capitals team was doing stretching etc. Then the team’s assistant coach Mehboob Ali Zaki fell on the field. He had a heart attack. Mehboob Ali was immediately taken to the nearest hospital, where doctors declared him dead. He was 59 years old. Even after his death, the match between Dhaka Capitals and Rajshahi Warriors took place on time.

BCB expressed deep grief over the death of Mehboob Ali. The board wrote on social media, ‘Bangladesh Cricket Board deeply mourns the demise of BCB Game Development Specialist Pace Bowling Coach Mahboob Ali Zaki.’ Mehboob Ali was associated with BCB since 2008. He came into limelight when questions were raised on Taskin Ahmed’s bowling action and he worked closely with Taskin. Mehboob Ali was a fast bowler during his playing days and he wanted to open a pace bowling academy in Bangladesh.
