Wave of mourning in BPL, Dhaka Capitals coach dies of heart attack just before the start of the match
There was a wave of mourning in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) when the assistant coach of Dhaka Capitals suddenly fell ill on the field. This tragic accident that happened just before the start of the match shocked the entire cricket world.
A very tragic incident was witnessed in the Bangladesh Premier League on Saturday, December 27. Dhaka Capitals assistant coach Mahboob Ali Zaki died on the field due to a heart attack. The incident occurred just before the team’s first match against Rajshahi Warriors at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
During the final preparations of the team before the match, Mehboob Ali Zaki’s health suddenly deteriorated and he collapsed on the field. The medical staff present at the stadium immediately gave him first aid and he was taken to the nearest hospital via ambulance. He was admitted to the ICU, but despite all efforts the doctors could not save him and his death was confirmed in Sylhet.
After this sad news, players of both Dhaka Capitals and Rajshahi Warriors teams paid tribute to the late coach by observing a minute’s silence during the innings break. Mehboob Ali Zaki was a respected name in Bangladesh cricket and had worked with many national players.

Mehboob Ali Zaki had earlier also served as a specialist pace bowling coach in the Game Development Department of Bangladesh Cricket Board. He had also been the fast bowling coach of the Bangladesh team that won the 2020 Under-19 World Cup. His sudden demise is being considered a big loss for Bangladesh cricket.
Talking about the match, amidst this emotional atmosphere, Dhaka Capitals played against Rajshahi Warriors. Batting first, Rajshahi scored 132 runs. In reply, Dhaka Capitals achieved the target with 7 balls remaining and won by five wickets to start their campaign in the current season of BPL with a win.
