New Delhi. A heartbreaking incident happened on Saturday before a match of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Dhaka Capitals assistant coach Mehboob Ali Zaki passed away after suddenly collapsing at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Saturday. Zaki collapsed on the field just minutes before his team’s opening match against Rajshahi Warriors.

The team staff and medical personnel immediately gave him cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), after which he was taken by ambulance to Al Haramain Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. BCB Chief Physician Debashish Chowdhury confirmed his death.

Everyone present in the stadium was stunned by this sudden incident. Dhaka team officials said that Zaki had not complained of any health problem before the incident. As soon as the news of Dhaka Capitals assistant coach Mehboob Ali Zaki collapsing in the stadium spread, players of several BPL teams reached the hospital in Sylhet on Saturday.
Players from Sylhet Titans, Noakhali Express and Chattogram Royals were also among those who reached Al Haramain Hospital. Zaki came into limelight when he worked closely with Taskin Ahmed after questions were raised over his bowling action during the 2016 T20 World Cup (India).

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said in its official statement that Bangladesh Cricket Board deeply mourns the demise of BCB Game Development Specialist Pace Bowling Coach Mahboob Ali Zaki. He died today in Sylhet. His age was 59 years. A former fast bowler, Zaki represented Comilla District effectively in the National Cricket Championship. He also participated in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League and played for top clubs like Aabahani and Dhanmondi. After his playing career, Mehboob Ali Zaki dedicated himself to coaching and player development. He joined BCB as High Performance Coach in 2008 and made a significant contribution to the development of fast bowling in the country.
