Brain drain explosion in Pakistan, thousands of doctors and engineers left the country
Pakistan, which is burdened with financial debt from all sides, is currently passing through the phase of ‘brain drain’ (brain drain) that is most terrifying in its history. Due to deteriorating economy, political instability and lack of employment, the educated youth of Pakistan are now fleeing the country. The recent report of Pakistan’s Bureau of Immigration and Overseas Employment has given sleepless nights to the government and the army.
According to the government report, in the last 24 months, five thousand doctors, 11 thousand engineers and 13 thousand accountants from Pakistan have left the country and settled abroad. In the year 2024, 7.27 lakh people had registered for jobs abroad, whereas by November 2025, 6.87 lakh people had completed this process. The most worrying situation is in the health sector, where there has been a staggering increase of 2144 percent in the migration of nurses between 2011 and 2020.

Amidst this serious situation, Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir is being trolled on social media. Some time ago Munire had described this migration not as ‘brain drain’ but as ‘brain gain’. Now when millions of people are leaving the country, people are asking on social media whether doctors and engineers leaving the country is a gain for Pakistan?

Taking a dig at the Shehbaz government, former MP Mustafa Nawaz Khokhre had said that Pakistan is the fourth largest freelancing hub in the world. But due to frequent internet shutdown, the country has suffered a loss of 1.62 billion dollars and 23.7 lakh freelance jobs have been put at risk. He made it clear that unless the politics of the country improves, it is impossible to improve the economy.
The situation in Pakistan is becoming more critical. Amidst economic problems, the Pakistani government is begging for help from the world. On the other hand, the higher educated class is facing great disappointment due to the employment crisis. On the other hand, experts believe that the Shahbaz government and the army have failed in arresting the talent in the country.
