Brave Indian Army shot for gold in the playground, created history by winning gold in Switzerland

New Delhi: India has created history by winning gold medal for the first time in the World Rowing Cup. In the World Rowing Cup III held in Lucerne, Switzerland, the pair of Lakshya and Ujjwal Kumar Singh performed brilliantly and won the gold medal in the lightweight men’s double sculls event. Both the players achieved this historic feat by taking a time of 6 minutes 26.09 seconds in the final match.

Won gold by leaving behind strong teams

The Indian pair defeated strong teams like Hong Kong and Netherlands in the final. The Hong Kong team won the silver medal with a timing of 6:27.14, while the Netherlands pair finished third with a timing of 6:27.36. The special thing was that this was the first match of Lakshya and Ujjwal at the international level, but they impressed everyone with their excellent performance.

Historic moment for Indian rowing

The World Rowing Cup is counted among the most prestigious tournaments of this sport. Many of the world’s top players and Olympic level pairs participate here. Winning India’s first gold medal on such a platform is being considered a big achievement for Indian rowing. This success is also going to boost enthusiasm for the upcoming World Rowing Championships and other international competitions.

Both players are Indian Army soldiers

Both Lakshya and Ujjwal Kumar Singh are serving as Havildar in the Indian Army. Not only this, the entire Indian team participating in this competition was associated with the armed forces. The Sports and Adventure Organization of the Indian Army congratulated both the players on this achievement and called it a proud moment for the country and the Army.
