Midfielder Casemiro to leave Manchester United at end of season
New Delhi: Manchester United’s defensive midfielder Casemiro will leave the club at the end of the ongoing 2025-26 season. The announcement was made by the club and the player in a mutual statement on Thursday, January 22.
The Brazil international joined the Red Devils in a deal of at least £60million (now $80.9m) in the summer of 2022 from Real Madrid. The midfielder wanted his exit announced this month to help him secure his next club. He plans to keep playing after representing Brazil at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and there is good interest from clubs in Major League Soccer (MLS), Saudi Arabia and Brazilian Serie A.
Casemiro earned £15m per year for the three seasons (including the current one), and £18m in the one season when Manchester United played in the Champions League. He still has a one-year extension option in his contract, but the club has decided not to activate it.

‘I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life’
Manchester United, in a statement, said that the fans will have the opportunity to recognise Casemiro’s contributions in the last home game of the season, against Nottingham Forest. Casemiro said that he will carry the club with him throughout his entire life.
“I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life. From the first day that I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love that I now share with our supporters for this special club,” said Casemiro.
“It is not time to say goodbye; there are many more memories to create during the next four months. We still have a lot to fight for together; my complete focus will, as always, remain on giving my everything to help our club to succeed,” he added.
The Brazil international played a major role in helping Manchester United to win the 2023 Carabao Cup, scoring a header against Newcastle United in the final. He also won the FA Cup with the club in 2024. So far, he has made 146 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 21 goals.
