Breaking News: Supreme Court refuses to stop government funding to Madrassas, shock to Yogi government too

New Delhi. Madrassas will continue to receive government funding. The Supreme Court on Monday put a stay on the NCPCR's recommendation to stop funding to government-recognized madrassas. Along with this, there has been a ban on sending children of unrecognized madrassas to government schools. Also, the Supreme Court has issued notice to all the states and union territories. The bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra has given this decision. This bench of three judges has refused to take action on the recommendation of NCPCR.

Let us tell you that the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) in its recent report had expressed serious concern over the functioning of madrassas. It was recommended to stop the funds given to them by the government. While hearing this matter today, the Supreme Court has put a stay on the recommendation of NCPCR.

Yogi government's decision also put on hold

The Supreme Court has also stayed the decision of the UP government to transfer students of unrecognized madrassas to government schools. In fact, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) had recommended closure of government-funded and aided madrassas if they did not comply with the Right to Education Act. Let us tell you that Yogi Government had issued instructions to transfer non-Muslim students studying in unrecognized and government-aided madrassas to government schools. Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind had filed a petition against this order of the Uttar Pradesh government.

Let us tell you that 8 days ago the National Commission for Child Protection (NCPCR) had written a letter to all the states saying that the funds given to madrassas should be stopped. These do not follow Right-to-Education (RTE) rules. The Commission had given this suggestion after preparing a report titled 'Guardians of Faith or Opponents of Rights: Constitutional Rights of Children versus Madrassas'. NCPCR had said – In Madrasas, the entire focus is on religious education, due to which children do not get the necessary education and they lag behind other children.

Recommending ban on funds, not closure of madrassas: NCPCR

National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) President Priyank Kanungo said that he never asked for the closure of madrassas but he recommended stopping the funds given by the government to these institutions because these institutions Poor Muslim children are being deprived of education. He said that we have recommended enrolling the children in general schools instead of madrassas.
