Chelsea transfer news: Blues ‘eyeing La Liga star’ who has excelled after bargain move

Chelsea have allegedly been in touch with Getafe over a potential deal for Christantus Uche during next summer’s transfer window.

Chelsea have reportedly been in touch with Getafe over a potential deal for Christantus Uche.

The 21-year-old arrived at Getafe for approximately £416,000 from Ceuta during the recent transfer window, and he has starred for the capital outfit during the 2024-25 campaign, scoring once in 10 appearances.

Uche penned a four-year deal with the Deep Blue Ones upon his arrival, with the option of a further 12 months, but there is already a host of speculation surrounding his future due to his form in Spain’s top flight.

According to Reliefhis performances ‘have not gone unnoticed’, with Chelsea already said to have been in touch with Getafe to determine how much would be required to sign him.

The report claims that the Blues are determined not to miss out on a deal for Uche, with the Premier League giants believing that he could potentially be ready for a major club in the near future.

Chelsea ‘make contact with Getafe to discuss Uche’

Uche is said to be ‘fully focused’ on Getafe, but he is aware that ‘many clubs’ are following him, and a move away from Estadio Coliseum during next summer’s transfer window cannot be ruled out.

“He is a boy who, as you know, was a personal request from me to the president last winter and we are very happy because we think he has a lot of potential,” Getafe boss Jose Bordalas said in the middle of August.

“When the championship starts we’ll know the level he can give us. We have a lot of confidence in him: he has a very good attitude and his teammates are helping him a lot.”

What position does Chelsea target Uche play?

Uche has shown his versatility by operating in a number of different positions this season, but he has mainly been used by Getafe as a centre-forward, scoring from that position against Athletic Bilbao on the opening weekend of the campaign.

The Nigerian has also played as a central midfielder and attacking midfielder, and it would be fair to say that Getafe are still working out where he can be the most useful, but he is one of the first names on the team sheet at this moment in time.

Uche did not score in 36 appearances for Ceuta, while he has only managed one goal for Celta, suggesting that his future might not be as a striker, with the Nigerian potentially settling into a midfield role as he develops as a player.

There is said to be an ‘affordable termination clause’ in his current deal, although the exact amount is unclear.

Chelsea are believed to be far from the only club interested in his services, so there could potentially be a scramble for his signature during next summer’s transfer window.
