BRICS Meeting 2026: Enemy countries will sit at the same table in New Delhi, India’s diplomatic tension increased due to this demand of Iran

News India Live, Digital Desk: The eyes of the world are once again going to be on India’s diplomacy. A very important meeting of foreign ministers of BRICS countries is going to be held in New Delhi on 14 and 15 May. This time the most special thing about the meeting is that it is being presided over by India and Iran and United Arab Emirates (UAE) are also going to participate in it. The interesting and challenging thing is that at least three countries will participate in this meeting being led by India, which are currently embroiled in deep conflict with each other. There is also discussion in the diplomatic circles that through this summit, a way can be found to calm the fire of war burning in West Asia. India will host, there will be a gathering of stalwarts. India is soon going to preside over the 17th BRICS summit, in connection with the preparations for which this meeting of foreign ministers has been called in May. Invitations have been sent by the Indian Government to Russia, China, Iran, UAE, Brazil, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and South Africa. Russia has also confirmed that its Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is reaching Delhi to participate in this important meeting. Iran’s demand has created a diplomatic dilemma. Even before this meeting, Iran has put forward a demand which may make it difficult for India to maintain diplomatic balance. According to sources, Iran wants India, being the chair of BRICS, to issue a formal statement, strongly condemning the attacks carried out by America and Israel. Now the difficulty for India is that it has very strong and strategic relations with both America and Israel. In such a situation, this demand of Iran has become a big diplomatic challenge for New Delhi. Adopting a common stance is a big challenge for India. It is not easy to bring BRICS countries on one platform on the situation in West Asia. Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had recently clarified that it is becoming very difficult to form a common opinion among the member countries on this issue. Without naming any country, he said that some members of BRICS are directly part of this conflict, hence everyone has different opinions. However, India, as the chairperson, is trying hard to create a consensus among all the countries. BRICS now has the voice of 48 percent of the population. BRICS is no longer a group of just five countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa). In 2024, it was expanded to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and UAE. After this, Indonesia was also made a part of it in 2025. Today, the total population of BRICS countries is about 3.9 billion, which is about 48 percent of the total population of the world. This is the reason why this group’s dominance in global politics and economy is continuously increasing.
