BRICS Meeting: Transport Ministers of 11 countries will gather in Nagpur, BRICS countries will hold a grand discussion on women empowerment in Kochi.

Kochi. Under the BRICS Chairmanship 2026, India will host the BRICS Women Ministerial Meeting in Kochi, Kerala from July 8 to 9 where Ministers of BRICS member states will discuss to advance women’s empowerment and reaffirm their shared commitment towards inclusive, sustainable and long-term development.

According to official information, India’s BRICS chairmanship is based on four pillars – compatibility, innovation, cooperation and stability. BRICS women-led development aims to promote the empowerment of women in all these dimensions.

The ministerial meeting follows the BRICS Women’s Working Group meeting held on July 6-7, in which senior officials had in-depth discussions on priority areas under BRICS women’s leadership development. Building on the strong foundation laid by the Women’s Working Group, the Ministers will deliberate on the proposed outcomes and provide strategic guidelines to advance cooperation among BRICS member states.

It is driven by adaptability, innovation, collaboration and building for sustainability and reflects a people-centric and humanity-first approach. This ministerial meeting will serve as a platform for high-level dialogue on promoting women’s leadership, expanding economic opportunities, strengthening digital and financial inclusion, encouraging entrepreneurship, and recognizing women’s contributions to climate change, food security and nutrition.

The discussions will reflect the shared aspiration of the BRICS member states to promote practical cooperation and accelerate progress towards gender equality. The Ministerial meeting will be accompanied by exhibitions showcasing India’s achievements in women-led development in various sectors such as rural development, science, technology, nutrition, education etc. The program will also include a plenary session and thematic panel discussions with eminent experts, policy makers and practitioners, providing an opportunity to exchange experiences, share innovative approaches and foster partnerships for women empowerment.

Third meeting of BRICS transport ministers will be held in Nagpur

The third meeting of BRICS Transport Ministers is being held on 11 and 12 July in Nagpur, Maharashtra in which transport ministers and senior officials of the member countries will consider enhancing cooperation in the field of sustainable transport, connectivity, infrastructure and emerging technologies. Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari will preside over the meeting.

The meeting is being organized under the theme of India’s BRICS Chairmanship ‘Building for Adaptation, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability (BRICS)’, reflecting the shared commitment of the member countries to promote inclusive growth through technological innovation and improved connectivity. According to official information, India is currently chairing the BRICS countries and will also host a two-day meeting of the transport ministers of these countries in Nagpur from July 11.

The meeting will review the progress made since the previous meetings under the Transport Working Group chaired by Russia and Brazil and discuss enhancing cooperation in emerging areas such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), urban mobility, multi-modal transport, sustainable logistics supply chains, decarbonization and use of artificial intelligence (AI) based technologies. During the meeting, the member countries will also exchange the best practices being adopted internationally in road construction and other sectors.

According to the government, this initiative is in line with the vision of Develop India-2047, under which emphasis is being laid on developing data-driven, climate-friendly and disaster-resilient transport systems, promoting electric mobility and circular economy, reducing logistics costs and strengthening green multi-mode transport networks.

The expanded BRICS grouping currently includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. This group represents almost half the world’s population and about 40 percent of global gross domestic product (GDP). The Government believes that this meeting to be held in Nagpur will give new impetus to cooperation in the transport sector, strengthen regional and intercontinental connectivity, enhance ease of doing business and logistics efficiency and contribute to building a more robust global supply chain.
