In the ICC World Test Championship (WTC), Indian batsmen have played such brilliant innings, which not only brought glory to India but also increased the dominance of Indian cricket in world cricket. These innings have given new dimensions to the real test of Test cricket—patience, technique and fitness. Let us know about the historic innings of some prominent Indian batsmen, who created history during the WTC.

1.Shubman Gill’s historic feat (brilliant 269 runs)
India’s young batsman Shubman Gill created history by scoring the highest score by Indian batsmen in WTC. Gill played a brilliant inning of 269 runs in the Birmingham Test against England in July 2025. He hit 30 fours and 3 sixes in 387 balls. This innings was not only big in terms of runs, but it also proved to be a great example of technique, patience and confidence. This innings established Gill as the new superstar of Test cricket.

2.Virat Kohli’s classic innings (254 runs not out)
Former Indian captain Virat Kohli had scored unbeaten 254 runs in the Pune Test against South Africa in 2019. In this innings played on 336 balls, Kohli hit 33 fours and 2 sixes. This innings is counted among the best innings of Virat Kohli’s Test cricket career and it gave India a strong position in the early stages of the WTC.

3.Double presence of Mayank Agarwal (243 and 215 runs)
Mayank Agarwal is the only Indian batsman to make it to this list twice. Mayank had played an inning of 243 runs in the Indore Test against Bangladesh in 2019, which included 28 fours and 8 sixes. Apart from this, in the same year he scored 215 runs in the Visakhapatnam Test against South Africa. Both these innings made Mayank an important batsman of the Indian Test team at that time.

4. Aggressive style of Yashasvi Jaiswal (214 runs unbeaten)
New generation batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal caught everyone’s attention by scoring unbeaten 214 runs in the Rajkot Test against England in 2024. He played this innings in just 236 balls, in which he hit 14 fours and 12 sixes. This innings, played at a strike rate of around 90, shows a glimpse of his aggressive game in Test cricket.

In the WTC, the Indian batsmen not only displayed excellent technique and patience but also proved their skills in playing the longer format of the game. These great innings have not only taken Indian cricket to new heights, but also firmly established India’s strength in world cricket. These historic innings of these players will become a source of inspiration for the coming generations.
