Bruno Fernandes Ronaldo Matches Premier League Record
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes equaled Cristiano Ronaldo’s Premier League goal involvement record during his team’s 2–1 victory over Brentford.
In the match on Monday, which reinforced United’s hold on third place in the Premier League, Fernandes assisted Benjamin Sesko for the second goal. This marked Fernandes’ 140th goal involvement in the Premier League, achieved in 226 appearances, 11 fewer than Ronaldo took to reach the same total since joining United in 2020.
Ronaldo, who won the Premier League three times, accumulated his 140 assists over two periods at Old Trafford—first from 2003 to 2009, when he rose to prominence, and later from 2021 to 2022 as a veteran. During his second spell, Ronaldo played alongside his Portugal teammate for the first time at club level, according to the Premier League’s official website.
Throughout his Premier League career, Fernandes has scored 70 goals and provided 70 assists, compared with Ronaldo’s 103 goals and 37 assists, highlighting Fernandes’ dual role as both scorer and playmaker.
Additionally, Fernandes is the first player since Robin van Persie (between November 2012 and January 2013) to score or assist in seven or more consecutive Premier League matches. This season, the Portuguese international has recorded 19 assists, the highest of any player, with Manchester City’s Ryan Cherki trailing by nine assists. Fernandes is on course to win the ‘Golden Player Maker’ award for the season.
He is also pursuing a Premier League record for the most assists in a single season, needing just two more in the remaining four matches to surpass Thierry Henry’s 20 assists in 2002–03 and Kevin De Bruyne’s 20 in 2019–20.
Manchester United currently occupy third place in the Premier League table with 61 points from 17 wins, 10 draws and seven losses, trailing leaders Arsenal by 12 points.
