BSNL launches IFTV and BiTV service, competition to Jio and Airtel
Obnews Tech Desk: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has not only launched its new logo this year, but has also challenged private companies in the telecom sector by launching many new services. BSNL's recent initiatives, IFTV (Intranet Fiber TV) and the upcoming BiTV service, are positioning it as a strong rival to Reliance Jio and Airtel.
IFTV: Over 500 Free Live TV Channels
BSNL has started IFTV service through fiber based internet. The service is free for FTTH (fibre-to-the-home) customers, with over 500 live TV channels available. The IFTV service was first launched in Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, now expanding to Punjab, Haryana and Puducherry.
BiTV: 300 premium channels free for mobile users
BSNL has prepared a new service called BiTV for mobile customers. More than 300 live TV channels, including premium channels, will be available for free. This service has currently been launched in Puducherry and there are plans to expand it across the country.
BSNL's growing strength in telecom sector
These new services of BSNL have increased the anxiety of companies like Reliance Jio and Airtel. Jio is leading the broadband market through its JioFiber and JioAirFiber services, while Airtel is competing with Xstream Fiber.

Increase in number of customers
According to the report of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), BSNL added 5 lakh new customers in October 2024. Services like IFTV and BiTV are making it stronger.
