Whereas Airtel and Jio, despite strong speeds, lagged behind due to some technical shortcomings.
How BSNL got the lead in nPerf report
According to nPerf, BSNL secured the top position in the fixed-line barometer for FY26 with 89,174 nPoints. This score has brought him one place higher than last year.
The company recorded download speed of 78.5 Mbps and upload speed of 75.26 Mbps in this segment. Along with this, BSNL also performed better in experiences like web browsing and YouTube streaming, which strengthened its ranking.
How was the performance of Airtel and Jio?
Airtel reached fifth place in this report, although an improving trend has been seen. Its download speed was 62.4 Mbps, which shows an increase compared to last year, but the upload speed remained relatively low.
Jio recorded the fastest download speed in the segment at 79.6 Mbps, but weak upload speeds and high latency hurt its overall ranking. Despite this, the overall trend of the company remains positive.
Changing competition in fixed-line internet
The nPerf report shows that competition in the fixed-line Internet segment continues to grow. The performance of BSNL is an indication that the government company is also making a strong comeback with technological improvements.
While Jio and Airtel are still in a strong position in terms of mobile network and user base, they need improvement in the fixed-line category.
