Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is going to launch CNAP (Caller Name Presentation) feature soon for its users. Private telecom companies are already providing this facility to their customers. Now BSNL is also planning to implement it in the entire country. CNAP is actually an initiative of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), under which when a call is received, the name of the caller is visible to the user on the screen. This means that now you can think before receiving the call whether to answer or leave the call.
Testing is being done with private telecom operators
According to ETTelecom report, BSNL is testing the integration of its CNAP service with private telecom operators. An industry executive said Jio, Airtel and Vi have already implemented it. Now the same solution has been implemented for BSNL also and is being integrated in a region wise manner.
They were also told that after this integration, BSNL will launch the CNAP service across the country in three to four months. This complete solution has been developed and implemented by C-DoT (Centre for Development of Telematics), designed for public sector operators.
What is CNAP?
TRAI has introduced the CNAP service, which was gradually launched in the second half of 2025. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has also tested this feature on 4G and 5G networks. The special thing is that this feature is designed to prevent spam calls, but it is not currently available in feature phones.
Now you will not need any separate app to know the name when you get a call from an unknown number. Nor will you have to pay any additional subscription fees. The CNAP service displays the caller’s name directly on your phone, and it works through KYC-verified subscriber details.
