BSP releases list of 8 candidates for UP by-elections

After BJP, BSP has also released the list of candidates for the by-elections to be held on eight assembly constituencies.

Let us tell you that by-elections are to be held in Sisimau of Kanpur, Phulpur of Prayagraj, Karhal of Mainpuri, Majhwan of Mirzapur, Milkipur of Ayodhya, Katehari of Ambedkar Nagar, Ghaziabad Sadar, Khair of Aligarh, Kundarki of Moradabad and Meerapur seat of Muzaffarnagar.

karhal seat

Karhal assembly seat of Mainpuri is considered to be the strongest stronghold of SP. On this seat, in the year 2022, Akhilesh Yadav defeated BJP candidate Union Minister Prof. SP Singh Baghel. Akhilesh had resigned from this seat after becoming MP from Kannauj in the recent Lok Sabha elections. Former SP MP Tej Pratap Yadav has been declared candidate for the by-election. Tej Pratap is the grandson of Mulayam Singh Yadav's brother and son-in-law of Lalu Prasad Yadav. Here BSP has fielded Dr. Avnish Kumar Shakya.

Kundarki seat

The Muslim dominated Kundarki assembly seat remains a challenge for the BJP. No party has yet announced its candidate for the seat vacant after SP MLA Ziaur Rahman Burke, who was elected in 2022, became the MP from Sambhal. There are 63 percent Muslim voters in the area. However, in the recent survey, names of 22 thousand fake voters have been deleted. Of these, more than 15 thousand voters are said to be supporting SP. BSP has fielded Rafatullah alias Neta Chhidda from here.

middle seat

Majhwan assembly seat of Mirzapur has been the arena of many stalwarts. In 2022, Dr. Vinod Bind had won the election from here on Nishad Party ticket from BJP alliance. This seat has become vacant after Dr. Vinod Bind was elected MP from Bhadohi on BJP ticket in 2024. Ramesh Bind, who has won elections from BSP three times in a row in 2002, 2007 and 2012 from Manjhwa seat, has fielded his daughter Dr. Jyoti Bind for the first time after joining SP.

Ramesh Bind had won the Lok Sabha elections from Bhadohi on BJP ticket in 2019, however, after not getting the ticket in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he joined SP. BSP has fielded Deepak Tiwari from here.

Sisamau seat

There will be a fight again on November 13 on the Sisamau seat, which fell vacant after Irfan Solanki, who had won thrice in a row since 2012, was sentenced to seven years in prison in a plot-grabbing case. Sisamau seat, which was safe till the delimitation of 2009, has been yearning for victory here since BJP became normal. Now there are 42 percent Muslim voters here and SP's Irfan Solanki had won the last election with more than 50 percent votes. BSP has fielded Virendra Kumar Shukla as its candidate from here.

Katehari seat

SP had won the Katehari assembly seat of Ambedkar Nagar in the 2022 assembly elections. Lalji Verma, who left BSP, was elected MLA from SP. After being elected MP, he resigned from the Assembly. SP has declared Lalji Verma's wife, former District Panchayat President Shobhavati Verma, as its candidate for the by-election. Whereas BSP has made Amit Verma its candidate.

phulpur seat

The by-election for Phulpur assembly seat in Prayagraj is being held due to the resignation of Praveen Patel after becoming MP. He won from this area in 2022 as a BJP candidate. In the last assembly elections, Mujtaba Siddiqui was defeated by a margin of 2,732 votes, he is again a candidate from Samajwadi Party. SP has faith in backward Dalit and minority voters. This seat remains a nose seat for BJP. BSP has fielded Jitendra Kumar Singh from here.

Meerapur seat

Meerapur assembly seat went to Rashtriya Lok Dal in the year 2022. There was an alliance of RLD-SP then. Chandan Singh Chauhan was elected MLA from here. In the Lok Sabha elections, Chandan was fielded by RLD from Bijnor and he won. In the by-election, there is BJP-RLD alliance on one side and SP-Congress alliance on the other side. Most of the voters on this seat are Muslims. Along with the Scheduled Castes, the Jat community also has a significant influence here. BSP has fielded Shahnazar from here.

Ghaziabad seat

Atul Garg, who was elected MLA from Ghaziabad assembly constituency in 2022, was made the candidate by BJP in the Lok Sabha elections by cutting the ticket of Union Minister of State and former Army Chief VK Singh and he won this seat. After being elected MP, he resigned from the post of Assembly member. BJP leaders are using all their strength to win this seat for the third consecutive time. However, party factionalism is a big problem here. BSP has fielded Parmanand Garg from here.
