Budget Session: Opposition creates ruckus in Lok Sabha, proceedings adjourned till March 9
New Delhi, 13 February. The proceedings of the Lok Sabha were adjourned till 11 am on Friday, March 9 due to the uproar by the opposition. The budget session began on January 28 and the budget for the financial year 2026-27 was presented on February 1. The session began with President Draupadi Murmu addressing the joint meeting of members of both the Houses.
The second phase of the budget session will start from March 9, which will continue till April 2. When the House proceedings resumed at 12 noon on Friday after a one-time adjournment, Presiding Officer Sandhya Rai got the legislative documents tabled in the House. After this, Sandhya Rai adjourned the proceedings of the House till 11 am on March 9. Earlier, as soon as today’s proceedings began, members of the opposition parties started creating ruckus demanding the resignation of Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
Sandhya Rai informed about the demise of former member Bhagwan Das Rathore. Rathore died on 21 January 2026 in Haridwar, Uttarakhand at the age of 80. Rathore was a member of the sixth and ninth Lok Sabha. The members paid tribute to Rathore by remaining silent. After this, Sandhya Rai called the name of Congress’s Ujjwal Raman Singh for Question Hour, then the opposition members came in the middle of Aasan and started raising slogans.
Opposition members started raising slogans of ‘Hardeep Singh Puri resign’. Amidst the uproar, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda, while replying to a supplementary question on deaths due to codeine syrup, said that no death has occurred due to codeine syrup in any state or union territory, hence the question of giving compensation does not arise. Mrs. Rai urged the members to go to their places and cooperate in running the question hour but the ruckus did not stop, on which she adjourned the proceedings till 12 noon.
