Life imprisonment to all five convicts in Bulandshahr gang rape case, verdict came after 9 years
Bulandshahr Gang Rape Case: What happened in Bulandshahr on the night of 28 July 2016 put humanity to shame. A family from Ghaziabad was stopped on National Highway-91 with the intention of robbing them and then they were taken hostage. In this incident, serious crimes were committed against the minor daughter of the family and her mother. The victim’s family kept calling the police for help, but no help arrived on time. This incident was a deep shock not only for the victims but for the entire country.
Step-by-step description of the incident
The six-member family, returning from Shahjahanpur after attending the thirteenth function, stopped near Dostpur flyover in Dehat Kotwali area, when miscreants stopped their car by blocking the road. The accused took everyone hostage, took them to a nearby field and tied up the male members. After this, heinous crimes were committed against the women and the accused fled after looting. The victim’s father alleged that despite repeatedly calling dial 100, no police assistance was received.
Police negligence and diversion of investigation
After the incident, serious negligence of the local police came to light. Due to this, action was taken against 17 policemen including the then SSP. Initially some innocent people were arrested, which raised more questions on the case. Later, on the orders of the High Court, the investigation was handed over to CBI. CBI investigation revealed that this incident was carried out by members of the Bavaria gang.
Arrest and trial of the accused
CBI first filed charge sheet against Zubair, Salim and Sajid. A few months later, the victim also identified Dharamveer, Naresh and Sunil, who were associated with a gang caught in Haryana. After this, chargesheet was filed against them also and charges were framed in 2018. After a long trial and testimony, the case reached its final stage.
Court justice after 9 years
The main POCSO court of Bulandshahr convicted all the accused under serious sections of IPC and POCSO Act. On December 22, the court sentenced five convicts to life imprisonment. This decision is justice for the victim’s family after 9 years and also a message to the society that the law will take a strict stance on such crimes.
