Bulandshahr Shikha’s UPSC rank claim is fake

Shikha Gautam from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh had claimed to have secured 113th rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025, but during administrative investigation it was found to be fake. Actually the rank was given to Shikha of Delhi. UPSC and the local administration investigated the matter, confirmed the actual selection and exposed the false claim.

Shikha of Delhi got the actual rank. During investigation, Shikha of Bulandshahr had not passed the mains exam and the name in the document was found to be Shikha Rani. UPSC and the local administration confirmed the matter and ensured the identity of the correct candidate.

Claim and viral story on social media

After Shikha Gautam’s claim, she got a warm welcome at the local level. News like “Peon’s daughter becomes IAS” were published in the media and a felicitation ceremony was also organized with drums. Her story spread quickly on social media, but soon Shikha from Delhi sent a complaint about this matter to UPSC.

During administrative investigation, it was revealed that Shikha of Bulandshahr had not passed the mains examination and her interview was not even conducted. Her name in the document was Shikha Rani, which increased the confusion.

UPSC and administration took cognizance

After the complaint of Delhi’s Shikha, UPSC directed the District Magistrate of Bulandshahr to investigate the matter. The Tehsildar went to the house and asked for documents from the family, but the correct proof was not presented. Later, the family admitted their mistake and revealed that the actual selection was of Shikha from Delhi.

Earlier, a similar case had come to light in Bihar also. A woman named Akanksha Singh had claimed to get 301st rank, who was actually from Ghazipur, UP. During investigation, the roll number in his admit card was found to be different and his claim was proved to be fake.
