Seeing the protests of the people, Prime Minister Rosen Zeliajkov had to bow down and resigned from the post. Announcing his resignation in the National Assembly, Zeliajkov said, “We listen to the voices of citizens, we must raise our voice for their demands. Both young and old raised their voices in favor of resignation. This civic spirit should be promoted.”
What did the PM say to the protesters?
He also said, “The protesters will have to tell what outline of the government they want to see. The citizens of the country should demand this from the protesting leaders. This is the demand for a government that will move forward on the achievements of the previous governments, but through a good change.”
According to media reports, the number of people protesting in Sofia was more than 100,000. Students from universities of Sofia also participated during this protest. Last week also such protests were organized in which more than 50,000 people participated.
Why did the protests start?
Such protests took place in different places in more than 25 major cities of Bulgaria, including Plovdiv, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo and Razgrad. .People’s protests started when the government presented a controversial draft budget for the coming year.
There was mention of increasing both income tax and social security contribution in the budget. The government wanted to do this to fund a big plan to increase people’s spending. In such a situation, people along with opposition parties started opposing this draft. Let us tell you that Rosen Zeliajkov was the sixth person to hold this post in five years.

It is noteworthy that in Bangladesh too, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had to resign after large-scale protests and violence. There were massive protests against the government in Nepal too, after which Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned.
