Bulldozer action near Jhandewalan temple creates stir, Congress raises issue in Parliament, BJP-Congress face to face – Read
The uproar over the joint action of DDA-MCD on November 29 in the premises of the historic Baba Peer Ratan Nath temple, which is said to be around 1400 years old, located in Jhandewalan, Delhi, is showing no sign of stopping. It is alleged that the temple premises were vandalized without giving any information. There is anger among the local people regarding this. Now politics regarding this matter has intensified. Congress has raised this issue in Parliament.
Rajya Sabha MP Ajay Maken raised this issue strongly in Parliament and made serious allegations against the government. He said that this is not just a temple, but the center of a rare and sacred tradition of the Nath sect, which has been completely crushed by the administration. Ajay Maken said, ‘Will a 1400 year old faith be crushed in the name of building a road and parking for the office of an organization?’ Ajay Maken said that this is not just a building, it is a 1400 year old tradition. He said that this attack on the main center of the followers in Delhi who are still keeping the flame of Hinduism burning amid difficult circumstances in Kabul and Peshawar is extremely shameful. This is an injury not only to Delhi but also to the sentiments of the Hindu community sitting across the border.
Tension increased due to name of RSS headquarters ‘Keshav Kunj’
It is being claimed by local residents and some media reports that this action has been taken for the alleged expansion of RSS headquarters ‘Keshav Kunj’ located in Jhandewalan, especially for making parking and road. While DDA has not issued an official statement in this regard, but due to increasing controversy, new political heat has come on the matter.
Questions raised over action taken even after implementation of GRAP
In view of pollution in Delhi, there was a strict ban on construction and demolition under GRAP-II/III at that time. Despite this, according to local people, the bulldozer was operated in the morning amidst heavy police force. After the demolition of some parts of the temple complex, the area has also been blocked by steel shuttering.
Heritage related to Peshawar and Afghanistan
This temple is not considered an ordinary religious place. It is associated with the Har Sri Nath tradition and the throne of Pir Ratan Nath ji, whose center was once Peshawar (now Pakistan) and Afghanistan. Dargah Pir Ratan Nath Ji located in Jhanda Bazar of Peshawar is still among the few remaining Hindu temples in Pakistan. After partition, Baba Manmohan Das came to Delhi with the holdings of this sect and established this temple in Jhandewalan. Therefore, it is also considered the center of faith for many refugees who have come from Pakistan.
Makan’s three main demands
Rajya Sabha MP Ajay Maken has made three demands from the government regarding this matter. He said that there should be a high level investigation into the allegations of taking temple land for Keshav Kunj parking. The blockade of the temple should be removed and the broken parts should be rebuilt. Strict action should be taken against officers who violate GRAP rules.
