Busker Busker singer Park Kyung Gu dies at 38

Singer Park Kyung Gu, a founding member of South Korean indie band Busker Busker, has died at the age of 38.

SBS Newsciting his family, reported that Park passed away on Feb. 7. He is survived by his parents and an older brother.

“It still doesn’t feel real, but I’m sharing this obituary on behalf of the family,” a cousin said in a publicly shared message. “We’d be grateful if you could send him off with warmth.”

Park’s funeral was held Monday at a funeral hall in Gyeonggi Province. The cause of his death remains undisclosed.

Park and singer-songwriter Jang Beom June, his classmate at Hanbit High School in Gyeonggi Province, began performing together in 2011 as members of Busker Busker. The band went on to gain widespread recognition in South Korea’s indie music scene.

In addition to performing, Park played a key role behind the scenes, contributing to composition and arrangement work. He was also closely involved in Jang’s first solo album, helping shape multiple tracks.

According to Maeil Business NewspaperJang paid tribute on Monday by uploading an approximately 14-minute edited live performance clip to his YouTube channel. The video features Jang performing songs written and composed by Park.

Many fans expressed their condolences in the comments section.

“I hope you can now rest peacefully while doing the music you love,” one YouTube user wrote.

“Thank you for being part of my youth,” another commented.

“We will remember you forever through your music,” a third wrote.
