Chinese car manufacturer BYD recently revealed an updated version of its popular electric crossover, the Atto 3. The updated version is called the Atto 3 Evo, and it is now faster and offers a better range than the model currently on sale in India. So, what are the game-changing updates that BYD has introduced with the Atto 3 Evo? Let’s find out.
The Atto 3 was one of the first EV models from BYD to be offered globally. The electric SUV/crossover was introduced almost four years ago and is available in India as well.
Act 3 Ages
The biggest change in the Atto 3 Evo is the new 800V high-voltage system. In addition, the electric SUV now comes with a larger 74.88 kWh battery pack. With these updates, the EV can charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 25 minutes.
BYD has also made a significant change to improve practicality. The electric motor has been moved from the front axle to the rear axle. This has freed up space at the front, and the Atto 3 Evo now offers 101 litres of frunk space, in addition to 490 litres of boot space.
The entry-level Atto 3 Evo is available with a single rear-mounted motor. This variant generates 308 PS and 380 Nm of peak torque. The RWD version can accelerate from 0–100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds and has a claimed driving range of 650 km.
Apart from the rear-wheel-drive variant, BYD is also offering an AWD version of the Atto 3 Evo. This dual-motor version produces 443 PS and 580 Nm of peak torque. It is significantly more powerful and can sprint from 0–100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds. Despite the AWD system, it offers a claimed range of 510 km, thanks to the larger battery pack. The Atto 3 Evo also gets a five-link independent rear suspension.
Design
In terms of design, the Atto 3 Evo remains largely similar to the regular Atto 3 available in our market. The updates are subtle. For instance, the charging port has been moved to the rear fender. The overall dimensions remain unchanged, which suggests that BYD has packaged the larger battery efficiently.
On the inside, the Atto 3 Evo features a stalk-mounted gear shifter, a larger 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8.8-inch fully digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging, leatherette upholstery, ventilated seats, automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, and more.
Act 3 in India
The Atto 3 currently sold in India is available with 49.92 kWh and 60.48 kWh battery pack options. It is offered only in a front-wheel-drive configuration. Prices for the Atto 3 in India start at Rs 24.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and go up to Rs 33.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
BYD will be offering the new Atto 3 Evo in global markets, just like the regular version, and it may make its way to India in the future.
