Delhi government faces loss of Rs 2026 crore, big claim in CAG report on liquor policy

New Delhi: Just before the assembly elections to be held in Delhi, the CAG report regarding Delhi Liquor Policy has been leaked. In this, information has come to light about the loss of revenue of Rs 2026 crore to the government. India Today claims to have the leaked CAG report. The report said that the liquor policy prepared by the Delhi government had many flaws, which included irregularities in granting licenses. Along with this, a leader of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party has allegedly been benefited through bribery.

Quoting the report, it is being said that the group of ministers headed by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had rejected the suggestions of the expert panel. The cabinet approved the liquor policy and on many important decisions the approval of the then Lieutenant Governor was not even taken.

Despite complaints, all auctions were approved

According to the CAG report, despite the complaint, everyone was given permission to bid for the auction. Those who had incurred losses were also given licenses or renewed. This report is yet to be presented in the Delhi Assembly elections. The Delhi government had implemented a new liquor policy by replacing the old policy in the year 2021. Since then, many questions have arisen regarding license allotment under this policy. However, after this the Delhi government withdrew this policy. Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, who held the post of Chief Minister during the formulation of Delhi liquor policy, were accused of corruption. Both also went to jail. After which he had to leave the post of Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister. At present both are out on bail.

Political turmoil over CAG report

Now a political battle has started over the information revealed in the leaked CAG report regarding Delhi Liquor Policy. BJP national president and Union Health Minister JP Nadda said that the CAG report on Sharband has exposed Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party government. The government suffered a loss of Rs 2026 crore due to deliberate lapse while formulating the policy.
