Officials said that these poisonous mushrooms grow rapidly during the rainy season and hence the danger increases. Several people recently fell ill after picking mushrooms at a local park in Monterey County, central California. Additionally, several cases have also been reported in the San Francisco Bay Area. The state health department said the threat is widespread across California. Poison control centers in the US recorded more than 4,500 cases of poisoning caused by mushrooms in 2023, the majority of which involved young children.

Hundreds of mushroom poisoning cases are reported in California each year. Additionally, mushrooms called “destroying angels” are also dangerous and they also look like edible mushrooms. Experts say that poisoning cannot be detected by looking at the color of the mushroom. Also, whether raw or cooked, the poison can be heavy in both the cases.

symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea or nausea

Symptoms such as stomach cramps, vomiting, diarrhea or nausea may appear within 24 hours of eating poisonous mushrooms. However, in some cases these symptoms get cured, but even after this, severe damage to the liver can occur. Some patients may require intensive care and a liver transplant. Due to this, the US government issues this type of warning every year.
