“Can play IPL till 60!”, Dhoni’s statement created a stir, gave a big hint on retirement
New Delhi. MS Dhoni once again made headlines with his statement in the fan event of Chennai Super Kings before IPL 2026. In this program organized at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Dhoni jokingly said that he can play IPL even till the age of 60. After his statement, the fans present in the stadium echoed with slogans of ‘Dhoni-Dhoni’.
During the event, actor Sivakarthikeyan appealed to Dhoni to ignore the talks of retirement and play for a long time. To this Dhoni laughingly replied, “It will be difficult… but I can try.” On hearing his answer, the atmosphere was filled with excitement and its video quickly went viral on social media.
Dhoni is counted among the most successful players in IPL history. So far, he has scored 5439 runs in 278 matches and has led Chennai Super Kings to the title 5 times under his captaincy. IPL 2026 will be his 19th season, although before 2024, he left the captaincy and handed over the responsibility of the team to Rituraj Gaikwad.

Will 2026 be the last season?
Speculation continues regarding Dhoni’s future. CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan has indicated that Dhoni will play the entire season in IPL 2026, but his role may be different from before.
A change in his role has been clearly seen in the last few seasons-
– Now he is not the captain of the team.
– Plays the role of finisher in the lower order.
– His participation has been limited due to Impact Player rules.
With the entry of new players in the team, the responsibility of wicketkeeping can also be divided in future. However, Dhoni’s experience and presence is still considered vital for the team, especially considering the team’s performance last season.
New beginning or last chapter?
IPL 2026 could be a sign of change for Chennai Super Kings and also the last phase of Dhoni’s career. Fans are hoping that ‘Mahi’ once again shows his magic on the field – whether he continues to play or bid farewell after this season.
